Can I run Android >= 10 ?

Hi,

I just received my Shift Phone and noticed that it runs android 8.0. First, I'm wondering if such an old version of Android still receives the proper security updates? Second, I miss the dark theme I had on my previous phone, which unfortunately came with android 10, so I'd like to know if there's a way to upgrade to a newer version. Unless there are good reasons for staying on 8.0?

There might be an unofficial update possibility. It's untested and is likely to be buggy. The main developer of Shift advises against it.The whole thing is called Project Treble and could be possible for the 6m.

The main developer writes that it will probably fail because of the Shift's own vendor image and processor.

If the shift thread isn't intimidating enough and you're not afraid of a brand new paperweight and really want to test it out, you might want to switch to Lineage OS first and test it with a Lineage GSI. I think that would have the most chance for as few bugs as possible.

I wouldn't recommend it.
