Feedback on camera

Greetings!

I'm noticing some weird artifacts in my pictures, and I would like to give this feedback to the developers.

When I take pictures of cards I hand-draw, I notice that in the area of the head of the character there's a circular "halo" where the image is crispier and darker. I assume it is some function of the software that recognizes where the face of a human is and tries to render as many details as possible around it, and while I believe that the effect might go unnoticed in a "natural" photo, it creates weird effects in my application case where the "background" is uniform.

Maybe there's something to be fiddled with with how the software handles the rendering? Maybe a switch to make the function optional?

Here are some examples:

Interesting 🤔.
Did you take the pictures with the normal camera mode? What about the HDR function?
Maybe you could also test the various parameters of the "Pro mode".

It could also be the white balance.
What about smartphone cameras from other manufacturers?
Have you tested a different camera app?

Perhaps you also have a drawn picture without a "face" to see if your assumption about the recognition could be correct. I think the more information we have about the behavior and the corresponding attempts to recreate it, the easier it should be to troubleshoot.

I noticed this happening in pictures taken indoors, with "diffuse light" conditions.

It does seem to happen when the HDR function is on and the 50MP function is off, but even if it occurs frequently it still feels "random" as some pictures actually turn out good with exactly the same settings of pictures that present the artifact.
Turning HDR off, or 50MP on, seems to produce unaffected pictures consistently.
Didn't venture on "Pro mode" settings yet, but I might try to tinker and see if I can get the artifact consistently to pinpoint any possible issue.

I tried to take a few dozens of pictures with the camera app from LineageOS (org.lineageos.aperture v.14) and it looks like it's unaffected, at least with the default settings at launch.
